Issuing debt securities in the Brazilian capital market is now standard practice for agribusinesses. But it wasn’t always like this. In the early 2010s even the largest companies in the sector were restricted from accessing this funding.

The 2010s was a challenging decade for the Brazilian sugar cane industry. Cogeneration offered potential for the sector to generate energy from sugar cane bagasse. But many mills found it difficult to raise the capital required.

The 2010s were tough years for the Brazilian sugar cane industry. Many mills suffered from negative cash flow generation; some defaulted on their financial obligations and entered bankruptcy protection via the Judicial Recovery process. We were asked by a milling group in mid-2019 to help with its financial recovery by raising new capital and restructuring its financial obligations with its main creditors.
